Baseball Team Names

Major League baseball team names have come about in some interesting ways. I thought it would be fascinating to take a look at how some clubs got those names.

Most clubs were called something different back in the early days of MLB history. Since the early 1900s, though, most have stuck.

Many times, the press was responsible for naming a team just by referring to them in the newspapers. Some clubs were named by their owners and some in other interesting ways.

But for a few simple twists of fate, we might be rooting for the Los Angeles Bride Grooms, the New York Highlanders and the Pittsburgh Alleghenies.

Check each Major League club below for some cool information on how they got their name.

Phillies

Pirates

Dodgers

Braves

Cubs

Yankees

Cardinals

Mets
