John Kruk Art

John Kruk played ten Major League seasons. He broke in with the San Diego Padres in 1986 before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1989.

John was a three time All Star and batted exactly .300 for his career. He belted one hundred home runs.

John Kruk moved to the Chicago White Sox in 1995 to be their designated hitter. He was having a good season as the Sox DH, but in a game in Baltimore on July 30, 1995, he singled and then took himself out of the game. He left the ballpark never to play again and is believed to be the only player to officially retire mid-game.

Kruk spent one season managing the Phillies AA minor league club in Reading in 2000. In 2004, he was hired by ESPN as a baseball analyst.
