Mike Piazza Swing

The Mike Piazza swing is another powerful swing that generated power by using nearly flawless mechanics.

Mike had a quick swing with a whip-like action to the baseball.

His weight was back and he hit against that solid front side.

His head was still during his stance and down on the ball at contact.

When Mike's front foot landed, it was always "closed". It was not open toward the pitcher. By keeping his front foot from opening, it caused his hips to stay cocked until the swing began.

Mike's arms were extended at contact and "inside the ball" which allowed him to generate enormous power to all fields. He was not a typical pull hitter. In fact, many of his longest home runs were to right field.

Mike Piazza finished with 427 home runs. The most by any catcher in MLB history.
