Nolan Ryan played an incredible 27 seasons in the Major Leagues. He started with the New York Mets from 1966 to 1971. In his first season with the Angels he led the American League with 329 strike outs. He threw two no hitters for the Angels, both in 1973.
After the 1979 season, Nolan Ryan signed a free agent deal with the Houston Astros, where he remained until 1988.
Ryan left Houston in 1989 for the Texas Rangers where he played until his retirement in 1993.
Nolan Ryan played in eight Major League All Star games and was the 1977 American League Pitcher of the Year.
He pitched a record seven no hitters and is the Major League's All Time strike out leader with 5,714. Nolan finished with 324 wins.
He is first in strike outs per nine innings, fifth in innings pitched, seventh with 61 shut outs and pitched 222 complete games. Ryan ranks second in games started with 773.
Unbelievably, Nolan Ryan never won the Cy Young Award. His number 30 was retired by the California Angels and his number 34 by the Astros and the Rangers. He is the only player to have his number retired by three clubs.
Nolan Ryan was elected to Baseball's Hall Of Fame in 1999.
