World Series Rings have sure come a long way. Every year they seem to get a little more extravagant. In 1922 the New York Giants beat the New York Yankees in the World Series. This was the first time World Series rings were presented.
This ring was made of 14 karat gold by the Dieges and Clust Company with the player's name engraved inside the band. The ring featured a single diamond.
Before 1922 World Series winners were presented watch fobs, pocket watches or penndants. Since 1932, when the Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs, every championship club has received a ring.
This actually became a league rule in the 1940s.
In 1944 the Saint Louis Cardinals beat the Saint Louis Browns in six games. The entire World Series was played at Sportsman's Park.

The Brooklyn Dodgers won their first World Series by beating the powerful New York Yankees in 1955.
By now the rings were getting more beautiful each year, but still contained only one diamond.


Bill Mazeroski's famous home run in game seven of the 1960 World Series gave the Pittsburgh Pirates the win over the Yankees.

The New York Mets stunned the baseball world in 1969 finishing off the Baltimore Orioles in five games.

The Miracle Mets became the first expansion club to win a championship.

The Pirates beat the Baltimore Orioles in the 1971 World Series despite the fact that the Orioles had four twenty game winning pitchers.

Roberto Clemente was named the series MVP.

Catfish Hunter led the Oakland A's to their third straight World Series title in 1974.

Pete Rose and the Cincinnati Reds edged the Boston Red Sox in one of the most thrilling fall classic ever in 1975.
This was the series when Carlton Fisk hit his dramtic game six winning home run.
Willie Stargell took MVP honors when the Pirates again beat the Orioles in 1979.
You can see that the World Series rings were getting fancier. The front of the Buc's ring had ten diamonds.
1980 Most Valuable Player Mike Scmidt and the Phillies won their first World Series ever by defeating the Kansas City Royals and American league MVP Goerge Brett in 1980.

The Mets did it again in 1986 against The Red Sox with the most dramatic comeback in World Series history in game six. By now, the rings were covered in diamonds.

Kirk Gibson's famous homer off Dennis Eckersly in game one of the 1988 World Series helped the Dodgers beat the oakland A's in 1988.

The Atlanta Braves won 14 straight division title but their only World series win came in 1995 against the Cleveland Indians.

The Boston Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years in 2004 by beating the Cardinals four games to none.

The Cardinals won another World Series in 2006 when they beat the Detroit Tigers. Check out the diamonds on this one!

And here's the grand daddy of them all. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008 defeating the Tampa Bay Rays.
Their World Series ring contained 103 diamonds! One for every game the Phillies won that year. 92 regular season and 11 post season games.

So, as you can see, World Series rings have gotten bigger and better over the years. Who knows what the next one will look like.
